In a small pan, mix the soy sauce, honey, vinegar, ginger and garlic. Simmer over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring.
- 2
Dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water, add to the sauce and stir until slightly thickened. Set aside.
- 3
Heat the oil in a non-stick pan and sear the salmon for 3 to 4 minutes per side, without drying it out.
- 4
In the last 2 minutes, spoon over half the sauce and let it caramelize lightly.
- 5
Cut the salmon into small pieces, check carefully for bones and serve with rice and steamed broccoli, the rest of the sauce on the side.
Notes and substitutions
Plate the food in separate sections (rice, salmon, vegetables) — many kids prefer foods that don't touch.
8 to 10 months: serve the salmon flaked, with no salt or soy sauce, just a drizzle of olive oil. 1 to 2 years: use very little sauce because of the sodium.
Let your child help: stirring the pre-measured sauce or brushing it onto the salmon boosts acceptance.
Always check for bones and never give honey to babies under 1 year old.
